I finished my Hitofude today (pics to come!) and immediately cast on a Hachure. The red/brown is some Boundless Sock that was a second. It was Fascinator, now it’s a lovely contrast to this orange from the Tripping Yarn Balls Retro Toon yarn club.
This is another sweater with interesting construction; it starts almost like a triangular shawl. I’m kind of excited to see how it goes. I’ll keep you guys posted!
I finally finished a pair of socks! Sprightly Socks has a very easy-to-memorize slipped stitch pattern which made KIPing easy. And I successfully turned my second Fish Lips Kiss Heel with only one holey gap while dragging this project to the bus stop everyday. They’re a little snug to get on and I wish I hadn’t gone down a needle size for the ribbing, but they fit! And they’re warm. The yarn is Darkwing Duck, dyed by Shameless Twist for the Tripping Yarn Balls Retro Toons club. I love how variegated yarn works with this pattern.
We enjoyed our last night at the drive-in for this season. I was able to finish the cuff of my next sock project before it got dark. Shazbat is the free Mystery Sock pattern for this round of the Sock Knitters Anonymous Sock Down. I highly recommend participating in SKA if you love knitting socks OR want to learn to knit socks. Each month’s Sock Down focuses on a different feature or skill such as colorwork, cables, lace, self-striping yarn, using leftovers. And there are prizes from lots of great dyers (like me!) This yarn is Gemini dyed by Tyrannosaurus Knits for the Tripping Yarn Balls Zodiac Club. Minty green like Doublemint gum (get it?)
Christmas was very merry and bright Chez Play!
We followed all of our usual traditions with only a little bit of last minute shopping. Things were a bit hairy for a week when we were down to one car. Thanks to the USPS pick-up service, I was able to get orders out in their usual timely fashion. And we were able to get my husband’s car sorted out in time for me to be able reclaim the van and get his stocking stuffers. It’s difficult to fill one of those things for a person who doesn’t like candy and has expensive hobbies. I was quite pleased to find mini cans of WD-40. He almost ended up with fast-food-themed boxer shorts.
Our Christmas highlights:
Cookie baking and decorating is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. The 8yo thought the blank angel cookies looked more like a squid. He has the best ideas.
I started a pair of two-at-a-time socks with my Nerd Girl Yarns Bounce and Stomp from the Tripping Yarn Balls Come as You Are Club. This one was inspired by Epic by Faith No More. It’s pretty darned epic!
And I gave myself this awesome tshirt from Busted Tees. I hope you all had a chance to hang out with people you love and enjoy the day! It’s back to the grind today. The After Christmas Sale is in full swing and it looks like I’m going to have quite a few big orders to pack and ship. All Maki and fingering weight yarns are 15% off so this is a great time to stock up! Time to get the dye pots going and update the site with my 2014 vending schedule. I’m looking forward to another busy year of yarning. Happy New Year, PALers!
